Times
have changed and that is awesome!
Remember the times when all that
an unknown musician could do was try to get
some shows, record a new demo once a year,
deliver it to record companies who wouldn't
listen to it and just pray to one day get a
record deal?
Remember the times when some (very very few)
musicians got lucky and got offered a record
deal only
to get screwed out of their share of the
money by the greedy bastards running the
label and probably be
dropped after the first album didn't sell
millions of copies, ending up broke again
and feeling like a failure?
The times have changed. For the better. And
that direction will probably stay for years
to come.
Going indie today is not only a very viable
option. For most artists it is the absolute
best option.
For the most part, signing a record deal is
a terrible career move these days.
Sure we have the Rihannas and Gagas but most
of us will never get that break.
Marketing your music by yourself is not as
hard as it may sound.
It will require you to educate yourself a
bit etc. but once you
have your music marketing tools, all it
takes is actually doing it, taking action.
Indie path is challenging and it sure is a
lot of work, but it's way easier than you'd
think.
I spent years and years of doing research,
making mistakes, trying out different
approaches,
getting frustrated before I finally found
out how to market my band and
what it takes to be a succesful independent
artist.
That's why this site exists. Lot of the
information I gathered on how this thing
works
was really well hidden and hard to find. It
took me years to figure out how to sell
albums
and how to get radio airplay and all that.
I wish there was a site like this when I
started. It would've saved me years.
I sincerely hope you will find this site
helpful, enjoy our articles and that list of
useful resources we've gathered and get to
the next level with your career.
Nothing will ever happen by itself. You have
to make it happen.
Everything on this site is aimed to help you
get
started on that.
Good Luck!
Regards
-Nick from IMR
